Skin diseases and allergies

Dermatitis is one of the most common causes of seeking veterinary care. It is said that every tenth dog in Finland has allergies, which often cause skin and ear infections. Typical symptoms include licking the paws, scratching the ears, and rubbing the face.

When you suspect allergy, we first try to exclude food as the cause of itching. The clinic has special diets available for doing a food trial.

When needed, allergy blood samples are taken and sent to a laboratory for examination. Blood samples can be used to determine whether your pet has an environmental allergy.

When the blood samples are positive for environmental allergens, we can choose to try an allergen specific immunotherapy (ASIT) or start an allergy medication.
