A vet for Kristinestad, Närpes and Kaskö – an hour's drive to Vaasa
Eläinklinikka Saari is an independent small-animal clinic in Vaasa, open since 1989. We are not part of a chain: six vets and eight veterinary nurses, and the vet who examines your pet also makes the treatment decisions. We serve in Finnish, Swedish and English.
Many of our patients already come from the southern coast. The drive is about an hour from Närpes and Kaskö and a little over an hour from Kristinestad – and for some things, it is worth it.
When the drive to Vaasa is worth it
Your local vet handles most of your pet's care close to home. We are the place for the things that need equipment or experience a one-vet practice rarely has in-house:
Dental care under general anaesthesia, with dental X-rays
Scaling, extractions and the resorptive lesions in cats that only show on an X-ray. Dental X-rays are taken during the same anaesthesia. Read more about dental care.
Dental scaling €263–353
X-ray and ultrasound on the same visit
Digital X-ray and abdominal ultrasound, read by the vet while you wait. X-ray · Ultrasound.
Cardiac examinations
Echocardiography, ECG and blood pressure. Leena Sandström holds the ESAVS cardiology certificate and is authorised to perform the Finnish Kennel Club's official heart examinations. Cardiac examinations.
Cardiac ultrasound €376–476
Orthopaedic surgery
Cruciate ligament repair by TTA or lateral suture, fracture surgery. Pamela Kvarngård has trained in orthopaedic surgery in the AOVET and ESAVS programmes. Orthopaedics.
Cruciate repair €953–1,803
Endoscopy
Gastroscopy, video-otoscopy, rhinoscopy, cystoscopy and bronchoscopy – for swallowed objects, chronic ear and nose problems and biopsies without open surgery. Endoscopy.
In-house laboratory
Blood, urine and hormone results during the visit, so a decision can usually be made the same day. Laboratory.
Cats
We are an ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic (Silver), with a separate waiting area, examination room and ward for cats. Cat veterinarian in Vaasa.
We are also happy to give a second opinion on a diagnosis or a treatment plan you have already received.
Making one trip count
- Tell us where you are coming from when you book. We will plan the visit so that the examination, any imaging and the lab results fit into the same day.

- Free parking at the door, with room for several cars.
- Insurance direct billing with LähiTapiola, Agria and Pohjola – you pay only your own share at the clinic.

Working together with your own vet
You do not need a referral to come to us. After the visit we send our findings and recommendations to your vet, if you wish, so that follow-up checks, suture removal and repeat prescriptions can be handled close to home. Many of our southern-coast patients have one vet at home and come to Vaasa for the procedures.
Emergencies
We are not an emergency clinic, and at 100 km we cannot be the right first call in a crisis. During opening hours (Mon–Fri 7:45–17:00), call us first on 06 321 7300 – we fit urgent cases into the day whenever we can, and we will tell you honestly if somewhere closer is the better choice. Outside opening hours, contact the on-call vet for your area: for Kristinestad, Närpes, Kaskö, Korsnäs and Malax the southern on-call district is 0600 399 199; for Teuva, Karijoki and Isojoki it is the Kauhajoki municipal vets' on-call line, 0600 12202. Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral from my own vet?
No. You can book directly online or by phone. If your vet has examined your pet already, bring the notes or ask them to send them to us.
Can everything be done on the same day?
Usually yes, if you tell us when booking what the visit is for. Examination, X-ray, ultrasound and blood tests can be done and read during one visit. Surgery and dental treatment under anaesthesia are normally booked as a separate day, and your pet goes home the same evening.
Can I come just for a second opinion?
Yes. Bring the existing results and we will go through them with you.
Do you serve in English?
Yes. We serve in Finnish, Swedish and English, and most of our vets consult in English.
What if my pet needs emergency care?
During opening hours, call us first. Outside opening hours, use your area's on-call vet – for the coastal municipalities 0600 399 199, for Teuva, Karijoki and Isojoki 0600 12202.
